Today is November 1st and that means National Novel Writing Month. I signed up two years ago and didn’t get very far, but this year, I’m all in. I went to two Boulder region kick off parties, I have eleven write-ins on my calendar, and for the past eight weeks, I’ve started attending the Friday 500 and my biweekly Saturday writers group again. Plus, I’m simultaneously signed up for a novel workshop, which started two weeks ago, so I have to submit pages for that for critique. I am firmly in writing mode and have no excuses to not have a draft completed on November 30.
And this means I’m signing off Facebook and Twitter for the month. And my blog. I’m doing nothing but writing. While my blog is writing, it’s also a procrastination tool. Substitute “blog posts” for “letters” in this Hemingway quote and you’ll understand exactly how I use my blog.
“Don’t you like to write letters? I do because it’s such a swell way to keep from working and yet feel you’ve done something.”
So I’ll be writing my novel and nothing else. And I’ve got my enforcer to keep me on track.

An accountability buddy sounds like a great idea. Writing is much like being along distance runner – it’s a lonely,long road and November in the US can be a lonely time.
I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo but find November very busy and never get beyond 10 000 words.
So this year I’m going to stop kidding myself and let November flow as it is meant to.

I’ve only tried it once before and didn’t get very far either. I want to make this happen this year, but yes, you’ll have a much more relaxing November than I will!

Haha – I did mean only not writing any blog posts, but I have been on Twitter still a bit too much this week. I got over 3,000 words in yesterday, so I deserved a break!
